Ornament Storage Boxes And How They Came To Be

We started collecting ornaments once we inherited many from our parents and grandparents after that we have got married. We felt a responsibility to guard those heirlooms for the family to get. That is at the late 80’s when there were no specific things like ornament storage box; they simply didn’t exist. So my better half Steve, a life-long tinker-er had to solve this difficulty. He’d always enjoyed arts and crafts - another inheritance from my beautiful Mother-in-Law Henri - so setting up a functional ornament storage box wasn’t his only objective, in addition, it had to be visually appealing. Oh, and i also forgot to mention that they had been a producer of specialty packaging and high-end things like steamer trunks, hat and jewellery boxes, and this was an exciting new location to explore!



First we did some research to learn why there were some liver spots on a number of our antique ornaments. It turns out that humidity just isn't good for the silvered paint inside many ornaments. More investigating revealed that as time passes, an acidic environment can also be damaging to hand-blown glass ornaments.
So Steve looked for a chipboard material that could be rigid but lightweight, he also needed that it is completely acid-free and have a tarnish inhibitor. He used metal stays inside the corners to make the box very sturdy and that he made dividers to generate individual cubbies for every ornament, but he earned them adjustable to support longer ornaments and strange shapes and sizes. He added removable trays in order that one ornament storage box could hold many ornaments. Finally, he laminated it with a beautiful Christmas themed fabric which looked gorgeous but in addition combined with the strength and sturdiness in the box.
Since Ultimate Christmas Storage was created we’ve probably had 30 different prints, them all a beautiful addition for a home’s holiday decor. Our ornament storage boxes were creation are still the only acid-free, archival quality boxes out there. We feel very fortunate to get loyal customers all over the country that still buy our fabric covered ornament storage boxes because of their own collections and gift them to kids and grandkids, making a new generation of collectors.
